Paul R. Carmack, b. 12/18/1895 in Madisonville, KY. He was a staff cartoonist for the Christian Science Monitor from 1925 - 1961. He trained at the Art Institute of Chicago and he wrote & illustrated "The Diary of Snubs, Our Dog" Vols. 1-4. He lived in Boston, MA until his death in 1977.
Long before Charles Schultz made Snoopy famous, there was another comic strip dog that captured the nation's imagination. That was the Boston Terrier, Snubs. It was appropriate the artist Paul R. Carmack would decide to feature a Boston Terrier since the strip appeared in the Christian Science Monitor, published in Boston. The paper had only been in existence a few years when they hired Carmack. The strip became so popular that Carmack released a series of books compiling the strips. This was a charming family strip with a boy (who Snubs refers to as "the boss") and his dog which kept folks laughing.
