oil on canvas, signed at lower left, presented in an antique gilt composition frame.
Stretcher size 16 x 12 in.; Frame dimensions 21 1/2 x 17 1/2 in.
John Bagnold Burgess came from a family of successful artists. He trained at Mr Leigh's Academy in Newman Street in 1848 and under the miniature painter William Charles Ross. Burgess was best known for his Spanish and Moorish subjects and exhibited frequently between 1872-1879.
