Description
Beautiful Madison County, KY jar 2 applied strap handles, stamped 'Griggs & Grinstead' marked 8 gallon. Stands 19"H x 14"W. John Parker Grinstead (see lot #36) or possibly his son Smith Grinstead (1834–1918) with Lucien Griggs (1827–1911). PA Huffman, in 1857, sold his pottery property to this local businessman Lucien Griggs. And then Huffman moved to to Texas and became a farmer, merchant, and prominent citizen. He was never recorded working as a potter again and died in Texas in 1898. There are some stressor fire lines around the base area, all insignificant. The pot rings true as a bell and is outstanding.
Condition
all pottery is in good estate condition, the picture will show any flaws and if we see something that needs to be noted we will do so in the listing.
