Loading Dock III is part of a small series of works based on a loading dock that is part of an older industrial building on Delaware Avenue in Philadelphia. In this painting, Bartmann says he employed the architectural framing of the loading dock as the foreground of the work. He then combined this element with imagined and borrowed spaces and architecture for the background.

According to the artist, this combination of imagined space, composite space and real space inspired many larger works as well. In fact, Loading Dock III led the artist to create a large triptych, which now hangs in the Pennsylvania Convention Center as part of their permanent collection.

Overall excellent original condition.
