Vincenzo Irolli was an Italian figurative painter of everyday life and religious subjects. Perhaps Irolli’s most compelling works are his depictions of women expressively posed in dimly lit rooms, as seen in his oil painting In rapture. He notably despised the avant-garde movements of his time, and openly hoped to undermine Cubism by exhibiting his traditional work at the Salon in Paris each year. Born on September 30, 1860 in Naples, Italy, the artist studied at the Naples Institute of Fine Arts under Gioacchino Toma. His works were included in the Venice Biennales of 1922 and 1924. The artist died on November 27, 1949 in Naples, Italy.
