Octavius Oakley (AMERICAN, 1800 - 1867) watercolor work on paper depicting a woman in an interior scene near an easel with a marble bust on table. Signed to lower left and dated 1861. Mounted in a gold leaf wooden frame behind acrylic screen. Work on paper measures approx. 29 1/4" height x 21 1/4" width to sight. Measures approx. 35 1/2" height x 27 1/2" width overall with frame. Provenance: Exhibited at the Society of Painters in watercolors in London in 1861, in the "Victorian Art" exhibit in New York in 1972, and in "Images of Victorian Womanhood" Yale University in 1982. Some gold loss and wear to frame. Work appears in overall good condition.
