A SAGGAR CONTAINING A PURPLE-SPLASHED JUN DISH

Adhere to the bottom by excess glaze and kiln grits, the dish of gently concave form with straight rim covered in sky-blue crackled glaze and a splash of purple with burnt blue inclusion, the rough saggar slightly convex at base.
4 1/2in (11.7cm) dish diam.; 6 1/4in (16.1cm) saggar diam.

A saggar containing a purple-splashed Jun bowl in the collection of the Art Institute of Chicago is illustrated on the museum's website, accession number 1989.628.

The saggar and dish are in original condition, with fired earth and sand remain under the dish. The glaze dripped during firing and caused the dish to adhere to the saggar. The base of saggar is gently convex. Some white adhesive wax under the saggar, keeping the saggar stable while on display.
