Becky Cohen (American, b. 1947). "Square-cut Allee in Winter, near the entrance to the Chateau at Parc du Sceaux" - a black and white silver gelatin print, 1/25 - 1994/1995. A striking photograph taken near the entrance to the Chateau de Sceaux, by Becky Cohen, an artist/photographer known for her landscapes of gardens designed by Andre le Notre - the French landscape architect and gardener best known for his work at Louis XIV's Versailles - during the late 17th to early 18th centuries in and near Paris. The Chateau de Sceaux is a grand house that in its present state was inspired by the Second Empire style of Louis XIII. It is located in the center of Paris in a park designed by Le Notre. Cohen's photographs are also featured in her catalogue entitled, "The Gardens of Le Notre" (1995). Size (sight view): 19.25" L x 18.9" W (48.9 cm x 48 cm) Size of frame: 24.2" L x 24.2" W (61.5 cm x 61.5 cm)
The works of photographer and filmmaker Becky Cohen have been collected, exhibited, and published internationally. With her photography, Cohen has focused on historically significant gardens as well as artist portraits, nudes, and views of the sky. Cohen photographed the Gardens of Versailles as well as other gardens in the Ile de France by Le Notre. This project culminated in her photographic suite entitled, "The Gardens of Le Notre" which was published in Architectural Record, 1999, and also led to earning the Alfred Eisenstaedt Award (2000) bestowed by Life Magazine and the Columbia University School of Journalism. In addition, Cohen photographed Robert Irwin's Central Garden at the J. Paul Getty Center in Los Angeles as well as numerous gardens in England and the US.
Becky Cohen's work has been exhibited at the Berkeley Art Museum, University of California, Berkeley; Bibliotheque Nationale, Cabinet Des Estampes, Paris, France; International Center for Photography, New York, New York; Los Angeles County Museum, Los Angeles, California; The Stanford University Museum, Stanford, California; The Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, The Netherlands; The Photographer's Gallery, London, England; Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego, California, just to name a few.

Photograph has not been examined outside the frame but appears to be in excellent condition. On the verso is an exhibition label as well as "Square-cut allee before the chateau at Sceaux, in winter," 1995/1995 (1/25) Becky Cohen," handwritten in pencil.
