Description
Affortunato Gory, Italian, French, 1895 to 1925, a very fine antique Art Deco style figural group hand carved of white marble and depicting a female nude holding two chicks in her open palms. Bears a carved signature to the base: A. Gory. Provenance: The International Sale 01.28.2015, lot 424. Affortunato Gory was a French-Italian artist who specialized in Art Deco figurative sculpture. He created mainly women and historical figures, often in the chryselephantine technique, using marble, ivory and bronze. Affortunato Gory came from Florence and studied at the local Accademia di Belle Arti under Augusto Rivalta. At the beginning of the 20th century, he moved to Paris where he studied under Victorien-Antoine Basset. He exhibited several times at the Salon des Artistes Francais.
