Description
Holland M. “Howln’ Mad” Smith (1882-1967) Marine Corps General. On the eve of World War II, General Smith directed extensive Army, Navy, and Marine amphibious training, which was a major factor in successful U.S. landings in both the Atlantic and Pacific. During the Marianas operation, besides the V Amphibious Corps, he commanded all Expeditionary Troops, including those that recaptured Guam. His book, Coral and Brass, Charles Scribner’s Sons, 1949, signed on the first blank page, “To Betty and Bobby who have been an inspiration to me….HM Holland Gen USMC Retd.” An owners bookplate is affixed inside the front cover. The dust jacket has rubbing and minor paper-loss at the margins and is now protected.
