Marine Fighter Aces. 10” x 8” black and white photograph of a downed Japanese plane, signed by five Marine aviators: R. Bruce Porter (1920-2009), Robert E. Galer (1913-2005), James E. Swett (1920-2009), Jefferson J. Deblanc (1921-2007), and Joseph J. Foss (1915-2003. Porter used his special Hellcat to shoot down two Japanese aircraft, on June 15, 1945, becoming the only Marine aviator to score kills in both the Corsair and the Hellcat, and ending the war with a total of five kills. Galer received the Medal of Honor for heroism in aerial combat during the Battle of Guadalcanal in World War II, Swett was awarded the United States' highest military decoration, for actions while a division flight leader in VMF-221 over Guadalcanal and Deblanc shot down nine enemy aircraft during his two tours of duty in the Pacific at Guadalcanal and Okinawa and was awarded the Medal of Honor. Foss received the Medal of Honor in recognition of his role in air combat during the Guadalcanal Campaign. In postwar years, he was an Air National Guard brigadier general, served as the 20th Governor of South Dakota. Triple matted and framed to 15” x 13”.
