Description
Film reel.- 16mm film reel of David Lloyd George's visit to Hitler at the Eagle's Nest in Berchtesgaden, contained within original film canister, housed along with a compact disc copy of the film in lidded box (box toned with some writing and wear), 190 x 190mm., 1936.
⁂ A sad commemoration of Lloyd George's later appeasement of Hitler. Following the treaty of Versailles in 1919, Lloyd George remained convinced that Germany had been treated harshly. He was supporting of Germany throughout much of the 1920s and 30s, a sympathy that was readily exploited by Hitler. The present reel documents in colour a meeting between the two statesmen. It is seemingly rare, we can only trace a copy in the National Library of Wales.
