Description
A great example of a "later run" Thompson patent lantern made for the Fitchburg Railroad. This model has the additional globe retaining ring applied to the interior of the top. Models with the retaining ring seem to always have 3 rivets. It also has a 5 digit serial number (some have 4 digits). I think the serial number is "11938". The lid comes off easily. The brass pocket for the set screw is fine. It has FITCHBURG in an arc almost the entire way around the lid. It also has FITCHBURG embossed in smaller lettering surrounding the skirt. This lettering gets fudged by the vertical wires. I did not see the 1869 patent on the bail ear or up under the intake holes. The fount and burner are correct for a Thompson and both leaf springs are working on the pinch assembly.
The globe is a correct Thompson style. That means the lettering is quite flat but very wide. Check other Fitchburg cast globes, for Ham's, and Steam Gauge they have narrow lettering. This globe also has a rectangular panel for the initials. There is one minor flake off of one seam on the top. All original! Nice Shape.
