Description
A brass top bellbottom style lantern made for the Boston Concord & Montreal Railroad. The frame is most likely made by Kelly but might be an L. F. Betts. It's a standard #39 size so the globe is 5 3/8" tall. The brass top is good and the frame was painted black a long time ago. It has BC&M RR stamped on the lid. The lid, brasstop and bell sure look like Kelly. It's a single piece frame so it has a pinch pot. The pot and bottom of the bell were not painted so you get an idea of condition. The globe is a molded #39 with no markings. I have yet to see a removeable globe BC&M lantern with a marked globe so no use searching for or replacing this globe. The burner is a nice brass whale oil double pick-wick. The Boston Concord & Montreal became the Concord & Montreal Railroad in 1889. This lantern came with a J W Auction lot #196 string tie on it.
