Description
A Chinese Hardstone Mounted Black Lacquer Four-Panel Screen. Each panel consists of an upper rectangular panel above the smaller square panel; the upper panel is embellished and applied with tinted hardstone and mother of pearl to render robed scholars accompanied by young attendants in the garden setting under the pine or flowering trees; the lower panels depicting birds perched on flowering tree branches, and the reverse sides engraved and painted to exhibit river landscape with figures on the boat or pavilions pursuing various activities. Late Qing dynasty to early 20th century. {Height 75 inches (190.5 cm); the width of each panel: 17 3/8 inches (44.1 cm)}. Condition: Intensive losses on hardstone decoration.
