Description
A Chester County Chippendale walnut secretary bookcase, fourth quarter 18th century, the bookcase having a pair of raised panel doors above two candle slides, the doors enclosing an interior with two adjustable shelves and twelve pigeon holes above six small drawers, the secretary below having a hinged fall enclosing a fitted interior of eight pigeon holes and small drawers about a central prospect door enclosing a pair of pigeon holes and small drawers, having four graduated long drawers below, raised on ogee bracket feet. This piece was originally owned by Benjamin Maule, and has descended in the family until this date.
Dimensions:height 85 3/4in; width 41in; depth 22 1/2in. 38" wide at the waist.

Condition
In overall good condition. Structurally sound. Typical marks, wear, dings and dents commensurate with age and use. Vertical age cracks to the bookcase and secretary. Horizontal age cracks to the hinged fall of the secretary. The feet appear to be original. Some minor small patches, repairs to molding and filling in to age cracks throughout. There is a small loss of molding to the right side, just above the right loper. The hardware is replaced with period brass covering plugged holes. Having three keys.
