Description
Jeff Cochran (American, b. 1971), "Good Behavior" & "Good Behavior II" (2). oil on canvas
Jeff Cochran paints warm, peaceful dreamlike landscapes. In his oil paintings, he tries to convey a sense of mystery and seeks to create a meditative atmosphere. An avid cyclist, the artist combines his love of bicycling and nature with finding new subjects to paint. "My paintings look like a place where you could go and sit and think".
Cochran began painting at a young age and won a four-year scholarship to art school. With considerable energy and dedication, he eventually earned three degrees -- one in fine art, one in art history, and one in commercial art. At the young age of 33, this artist has also written and directed two feature length films and created, written and hosted an instructional painting show on public television. With his continual search for knowledge and experimentation, it is not surprising that Jeff also paints unusual juxtaposed paintings, which are composed of panels containing several subjects. One panel always features a landscape, the second and third panels contain birds, butterflies, fruit or other shadowed objects. There is sometimes a touch of humor, sometimes a little romance and always an interesting combination of elements for the viewer to wonder about.
Provenance: The Estate of Jane Ponton (Kerrville, Texas)
