Description
Northern Europe, Scandinavia, Viking or Norse culture, ca. 800 to 1100 CE. A forged-iron axe head of an interesting form with a curved tip along the lower portion of the blade edge. The rest of the tool features a gradually widening neck and a socketing shaft backed with a tall panel for added stability when striking its intended target - likely wood or mud bricks, given the design. Size: 6.7" L x 1.7" W x 2.6" H (17 cm x 4.3 cm x 6.6 cm)

Condition
Nicks and pitting to surfaces, with a couple of fissures visible within socketing shaft, otherwise intact and very good. Entire tool is covered in dark stabilization material to mitigate further oxidation.
