Continental Currency May 9th, 1776 $5 Fr-CC35 Printed By Hall & Sellers Grades vf++. The emblem showing the hand gathering food while bleeding from thorn pricks is vividly rendered. The motto is SUSTINE VEL ABSTINE (Either survive or give up). The May 8, 1776 issue comprised dollar denominated notes from $1 to $8, with the designs virtually identical to the corresponding denominations from the three previous issues. $5,000,000 in notes, redeemable in Spanish milled dollars or the equivalent amount in gold or silver coin, was authorized.
