Southeast Asia, Burma (Myanmar), ca. 19th century CE. A standing brass statue of the Buddha upon a pedestal with a lotus petal motif. The figure is cast separately from the rest of the base, the tenons on the underside of the feet inserted into the hollow pedestal. The robes fall to his ankles with naturalistic creases and folds in the drapery. He holds his hands in a mudra gesture, his serene visage with rounded cheeks, arched eyebrows, and elongated ears under a topknot coiffure studded with nodules that represent tight curls.
