Description
Two 19th C. teapots, one with scene “Landing of General Lafayette at Castle Garden New York, 16 August 1824”. Stamped on base Staffordshire, Clews, Warranted. Made by James and Ralph Clews, England, ca. 1825-1830. 8”H x 11.5”L x 5.5”D. With other example, with scene “Commodore MacDonough’s Victory” depicting his 1814 victory over the British at Lake Champlain, Vermont. 8”H x 12”L x 5.25”D.
Condition
Lafayette with tip of spout repaired, MacDonough’s with crack to body near spout, chips to to interior rim, small repair to body near ship.
