Description
Two 19th century Historical Blue Staffordshire plates. Transfer-decorated, including "Catholic Cathedral" by A. Stevenson, depicting St. Patrick's Cathedral, New York, with two figures in the foreground; impressed encircled crown mark on the reverse, also stamped in blue with an urn and banner enclosing title. Circa 1820. Together with "Scudder's Museum" plate with oak leaf and acorn border, entitled on the reverse. Both have light crazing; "Cathedral" plate with wear noted to the glaze along the outer rim and several very small brown stains on the reverse; "Museum" plate with a fine 1" crack at the rim. 5 7/8 and 7 1/2" diameter. ESTIMATE $300-500
