both gouache, held in carved and pierced period frames
each 31.4 x 20.3cm (12 3/8 x 8in). (2)

- Portrait of a man:
There are signs of acidification to the sheet but it appears to be in good colour. There is some oxidisation to the figure's face, especially to the forehead. There are scattered spots of foxing and brown staining. There is a small vertical tear of approximately 1cm to the right of the upper edge. There are some small creases to the sheet as well as some scattered light scuffs and surface scratches.

- Portrait of a woman:
There are signs of acidification to the sheet but it appears to be in good colour. There is some oxidisation to the figure's face and neck. There are scattered spots of foxing and brown staining. There is a line of mount staining to the lower part of the right edge and to other places around the mount. There is a spot of imperfection in the upper left corner. The right part of the upper edge of the sheet is visible when framed. There are some small creases to the sheet as well as some scattered light scuffs and surface scratches.

Please note that the works have not been examined out of their glazed frames.

There is some general wear to the frames and some gapping to the corners. There are are some losses and repairs visible to both frames.
