Description
American. 1900s. Embossed plated steel. The shroud is photographed next to the internal workings. When assembled, the shroud is installed over the mechanics. Carbon arc fixtures provided bright lighting for factories, institutions and stores during an era prior to available electric light. Carbon arc lighting was notoriously dangerous and was the known cause of numerous building fires around the turn-of-the-century. Tagged, "Stanley Electric Mfg Co., Pittsfield Mass, U.S.A.
