Jules Benoit Levy (1866-1925) Oil on Canvas. Painting: 29" x 24", Frame: 38" x 33". About artist: Jules Benoit-Levy studied at the Ecole des Arts Decoratifs, and the cole des Beaux-Arts under Boulanger, Doucet and Jules Lefebvre. He exhibited at the Paris Salon, winning third-class medals in 1895 and 1911, and a commendation in 1901. His principal works are: Studio Interior (1890), Reverie (1891), Squad Taking a Meal of Soup (1893), Algerian Artilleryman (1894) at the Cercle Militaire in Paris, Chouan Militia Resting (1895), Interrogation of the Prince de Talmont (1895), Defence of Rambervilliers (1896) in the Hotel de ville of Rambervilliers, and At Ease (1897). Benoit-Levy also contributed to a number of illustrated newspapers.
