Vintage and unusual Vietnam figural shape tea strainer in coin silver depicting a engraved and chased baroque style dolphin with a swinging silver basket above the dolphin mouth. Mark underside illegible; also a mark on edge in tiny lozenge with capital M or H, a Star with a hammer and sickle inside and number 875. Note: Apparently to use, one would hold the dolphin by the tail with the body to the side and the tea is poured from the tea pot with the tea passing through the strainer before the tea makes it to the cup. Any tea debris is caught by the sieve. After pouring, the dolphin body is swung under the strainer, catching any spare drops. Tea strainer is presented in what appears to be the original box lined in crimson silk. Approx. height 2.5 in., width 5.75 in., base depth 1.5 in. Approx. weight 72 grams.
