Description
VIETNAMESE / RUSSIAN COIN SILVER FIGURAL TEA STRAINER, the drip stand in the form of a dragon's head, the mouth open as if to consume the strainer suspended on swivel; marked to underside "VIETNAM / 0.900", with Soviet Russian silver assay mark, a hammer and sickle within star flanked by "M" and "875". Total weight: 2.04 ozt. 1958-1989. 3 1/2" HOA, 5" LOA.
Provenance: Property of the late Joann Bowen.
Catalogue Note: This article was made in Vietnam, and most likely shipped to Russia for export purposes. Similar examples of Vietnamese coin silver tea strainers and other articles can be found with both Vietnamese and Soviet Russian marks. It is believed that the discrepancy in fineness is attributed to the fact that there was no Soviet Russian "900" assay mark, but rather "875" or "925". As the .900 fineness could not be marked "925", the next lowest mark was used.
Virtually undamaged, with some minimal denting to base.
