Description
Two antique American five string banjos. Open backs. American, late 19th century. One S.S. Stewart banjeaurine with patent date of Jan. 11, 1884. This type of banjo has a larger pot and a shorter neck. Produced by S.S. Stewart of Philadelphia, PA. Mother of pearl inlay on fretboard and headstock. Condition: tear in membrane, can hold tune and playable. Strings should be adjusted and clipped, as they are sharp at their ends. Expected wear, dust, darkening from years of use. About 28" tall by 13 1/4" wide at pot.One George C. Dobson banjo. Made by George C. Dobson, Boston, MA. Marked with a partial "Richardson" sticker and a metal plaque reading "Victor". Patent date on bridge: September 21, 1886. Mother of pearl inlay on fretboard. Condition: playable, tuning pegs are somewhat loose but can hold a tune if pushed in.
