Pair of Asian Carved Stone Guardian Lions or Foo Dogs. Pair of Foo or Fu dogs, possibly 17th or 18th century. The highly stylized sculptures are guardian lions, also known as Shishi, used in architectural settings all over Asia, and are meant to guard and protect. Sitting on their hind legs, the sculptures are carved with open and fierce mouths, stylized fur, and tails that are curled up on the back. Beautiful weathered patina with lichen throughout.

From the private collection of contemporary artist Mihail Chemiakin (b.1943).
