謝孝德生於桃園，畢業於台灣師範大學美術系後留校任教，1973-74年旅居法國巴黎，並於羅浮宮藝術學院作研究，1975年旅居美國紐約研究現代藝術，1982-83年被英國世界名人錄列為世界名人之一。於國內外藝術展屢獲多個獎項，曾於日本、美國及港台等地舉辦個展，作品獲國立歷史博物館、國立台灣藝術教育館、台北市立美術館、國立台灣美術館、高雄市立美術館典藏。
本件雕塑作品以銅為材，將太極的動作化為行雲流水般的塊狀幾何造形。作品線條婉轉，動態流暢，賦予空間的想像，表現出不拘泥表面形象的內涵，是謝孝德在水彩領域中，另以銅雕所創作出東方與西方交融之獨特佳品，極為難得。
