A Mottled Celadon Jade Cong, Neolithic Period, Liangzhu Culture (private English collection)
the short cylindrical body is supported by four square corners, each depicting two tiered carvings of mask motifs, the top tier comes under two horizontal ridges and the incised mask depicts a pair of eyes and a fine mouth, an overall humanoid appearnace, the bottom tier carries the face of a mythical animal or beast, uneven hand drilled ring inside the Cong, the stone is heavily mottled with its original celadon colour still apparent on one side
