Description
Otto Schulenburg was the president of the Leviathan Gold Mining Company in Montana. This collection contains a vast amount of correspondence and other ephemera related to Schulenburg's life and career. Schulenburg was the son of German immigrants who settled in St. Louis, Missouri. He later moved to San Diego where he owned a ranch. Finally, he moved to Montana where he became involved in the mining industry. He was president of the Leviathan Gold Mining Company until his mental state began to decline. His business partner, Charles Morris was appointed as his guardian. Schulenburg died in an insane asylum in 1908. There are many documents in this collection related to the settlement of his estate after he passed. This collection consists of many other pieces of personal and business correspondence written between Schulenburg and others. This lot is a great collection of primary source documents related to a Montana mining magnate whose estate was estimated to be worth about two million dollars. It consists of hundreds, if not thousands, of documents in 14 binders. These binders are contained in 3 boxes, approx. 3 cubic feet in total. For more information, please see our online catalog.
