# 19 for 10 shares issued to George Allen. Datelined Chico, Butte County, Cal. 1867. Signed by secretary James C Martin and president J. Bidwell. Mines located on the Emerald Lead, Hardin District Humboldt County, Nevada. Hardin was the site of the lost silver load of 1849 that for decades prospectors tried to find. Incorporated September 24, 1867. 25c Power of Att'y Revenue Stamp. Crude mill vignette. No printer. Not cancelled. Top right corner has small tear, otherwise extremely nice. This is the sister certificate to the Chico Gold & Silver Mining Company. Bidwell was part of the Bidwell-Bartleson party which is often credited with being the first wagon train to cross the continent. Although they had to abandon their wagons in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Bidwell would go to work for John Sutter and fight with him during the Bear Flag Rebellion. He would find gold on the Feather River, was a friend to the Indians, and was a political presence in Butte County.
