Edged Weapons
Gorgeous European Design Seaman Dirk Deaccessioned from the De Young Museum in San Francisco, Calif.
c. 1780 Revolutionary War Era, Beautifully Designed European Seaman's Dirk, possibly French, Choice Extremely Fine.
This impressive Revolutionary War Era weapon appears to possibly be of French manufacture based on its decorative design. This Dirk measures about 14.5" overall with a 10" "Spear-point" blade, all Brass fittings with the blade having one unusual flat side, likely to be worn to the inside and has a lovely deep brown smooth Horn grip. According to the consignor, this weapon was deaccessioned from the De Young Museum in San Francisco, Calif. We have not verified this and there is no id tag. The steel blade is very smooth with an even steel-gray patina. The horn grip is choice with only slight minor wear and is tightly fitted to the brass. A very attractive Dirk that will display well in any collection.
