1879 Handmade Needlework Sampler with Lace Collar
1879-Dated, Handmade Needlework Sampler, made by "Emma Orth," Framed to 20.5" x 26.5", Extremely Fine.
An impressive superb quality Embroidered Sampler by "Emma Orth." This Sampler measures 13.5" square and is displayed together with a beautiful white Lace Collar (which she also presumably made) which measures about 12" x 2". They are matted upon white linen with a beautiful colorful period floral border, and framed in wood frame to an overall size of 20.5" x 26.5". Sampler features four full alphabets, plus some number and a couple of undetermined images in the lower right. Fabric and thread are in very good condition with no discernible holes. The Lace Collar is also in excellent condition with only some very minor edge fraying. These Needlework Samplers allowed young women to practice their craft, and have become highly collected for their social history and window to the past. Custom framed and ready to hang on display.
