July 7, 1847-Dated Mexican War Period, Printed Broadside of Congratulations and Honor with an Invitation to all those who serving with the American forces, "Free Barbecue" to be held on Thursday, 15th Inst., AT SALEM (Mass.), Framed, Choice Very Fine.
This very clean and impressive historic theme Mexican-American War Broadside measures 10.25" x 12.25" (by sight) professionally matted and nicely framed to about 13.5" x 15.5" the Broadside viewed under special UV Plexiglas. With the defeat of its Army and the fall of the Capital, Mexico City, in September 1847, the Mexican government surrendered to the United States and entered into negotiations to end the war. This black print on white wove paper Broadside top banner reads "HONOR TO THE BRAVE" below is a classic American Eagle with wings spread design of the period. Invited to the "FREE BARBECUE" local militia organizations such as "the Washington Riflemen, Posey Guards, Hoosier Boys, Lawrence Greys, Lanesville Legion, Spencer Greys, and the Charlestown Guards, with their respective officers, are especially invited... providing a hearty "welcome home" to the brave soldier, who so gallantly fought beneath the American Flag in a far distant land."
