AFTER RAOUL CHARLES VERLET (1857-1923), A BARBEDIENNE CAST BRONZE OF ORPHEUS LATE 19TH/EARLY 20TH CENTURY Signed to cast and inscribed F Barbedienne Fondeur 99.5cm high, 37cm wideProvenance: Property removed from 8 Pulteney Street, Bath. Originally titled LA DOULEUR D'ORPHÉE (Orpheus' Sorrow)- the work depicts the figure with ;yre and three headed Cerberus at his feet- in the act of turning to look at his love Eurydice- and, in the process, losing her forever. The plaster model for this work was first exhibited at the Salon of 1887.
