Description:
[14], vi, 100 pp. With dedication-page printed in color, added pictorial title-page printed in gold. 39x27.5 cm (15¼x10¾"), half red leather and orange boards, titled and decorated in gilt on spine.
Rare and significant work on color printing, which essentially revived the method of printing from relief blocks used in chiaroscuro printing. Savage, however, was able to make colored inks without using oil as a base, making it easier for printers to do make-ready and clean-up. Savage was instrumental in paving the way for the Baxter process and other methods of relief printing that remained popular in England throughout the 19th century.
Condition
Light rubbing and soiling; a touch of toning and chipping to edges of some leaves and plates, occasional paper repair to plates, very good.
