Description
"American Campaigns" by Matthew Forney Steele, volume I published by the United States Infantry Association, 1943, 8th Printing, January, 1947. Printed by the Telegraph Press, Harrisburg, Pa. The volume II is a large Civil War Atlas to Accompany Steele's "American Campaign". The maps were prepared by the Department of Military Art and Engineering, United States Military Academy, for its course in Military History, T.D. Stamps, Lieutenant Colonel, U.S. Army, Professor of Military Art and Engineering, West Point, N.Y., August 1941. [The printing of 1945].
Volume I: Hard boards, original black cloth with yellow lettering on front board and spine; 6.1/4" x 9"; the upper corner of the front endpaper is cut-up; viii + 731 pages including index, very good condition.
Volume II: Hard boards, original publisher's dark blue cloth with gold lettering on the front board [stains and wear]; large format Folio, 9" x 13"; the upper corner of the front endpaper is cut-up; unpaginated, all listed maps are present. The first double-page "General Map" is not numbered; all other maps are numbered 1 to 136 [with several additional maps marked with the letter (for example, 131a, 131b, 131c...). The changing situations require several maps, for example The First Bull Run Campaign consists of seven double page maps covering the situation from the July 15, 1861 through July 21, 1861. The maps are printed on one side only [blank backsides]; very good condition.
