Description
MEASUREMENTS: APPROX. 35" (H) X 40" (W)
Original oil on panel painting, signed by Harold Stephenson made towards the end of his career in the 1960's. Depicting two young children in tattered clothing and a somber expression. Stephenson uses bright-warm colors on the children's skin and clothes, in contrast to the choice to use dull blue toned colors to render the brick and sky behind them to create deep emotion. Professionally matted and framed, with stickers of proof of framing on the back. Would make an excellent addition to any living room or den.
Harold Stephenson (1908 - 1974), also known as ABRUZZI, is most well known for his formal portraits of Hollywood notables and as later as a painter of stylized scenes of children and post-Atomic ruins in the early 1960's. In his late teens, he studied in New York City at the Art Students League and National Academy of Design, and shortly after continued his studies in Paris at the Académie des Beaux Arts. During World War Two he was a combat artist, and later he settled in Hollywood where he worked for the movie studios and taught at his Benedict Canyon studio.
