Italian School, untitled, 16th/17th century, oil on canvas, portrait of a cardinal general, oval bust length painting depicting the sitter wearing a red biretta and cloak, armour, and holding a baton, the text to the left of the subject reading in part, "**** A Legge/***** *or General/In **** Fori", apparently unsigned, in carved parcel gilt wooden and frame. Approx. canvas h. 40.25", w. 33"; Overall h. 47", w. 39.75".

Canvas has been lined, scattered inpainting, craquelure, varnish has darkened with a hazy green layer visible under ultraviolet light, damage to frame with evidence of previous worming (inactive).
