Pre-Columbian, Peru, Paracas, ca. 500 to 300 BCE. A gorgeous bracelet shaped from a sheet of 47% gold and 47% silver alloy. The fashionable accessory was first shaped by hammering the sheet metal around a broad mandrel in the relative shape of a wrist and then pounded to create hundreds of petite stippling marks in repousse that are perhaps meant to emulate tree bark or scaly fish skin. Surfaces are slightly bent and covered in petite stippling. Minor abrasions and bending to peripheries, with some recessed areas covered in dark orange deposits. Great luster throughout.
