1p, ALS, 5” x 6.25”, Boldly signed by Philip Sheridan as "Phil." In part: "I will go to the funeral services of Mr. Judd but not to the cemetery and will be home in a reasonable time for dinner". In this short letter, Sheridan, who is most remembered for making the statement "The only good Indian is a dead Indian", shows his priorities as he is concerned about making it home from a funeral in time for dinner.
A ruthless soldier and called an absolute tyrant by President Andrew Johnson, General Philip Sheridan was a career United States Army officer and a Union general in the Civil War.
