A dynamic acrylic painting on canvas titled Pop Population by award-winning Canadian artist Alex Janvier. Titled and dated 1979 on the bottom left. Signed by the artist mid bottom left. This is a quintessential depiction of Janvier's abstract style. According to Ottawa magazine, the sinuous color-streaked lines he paints are like an aerial map of a river system or veins creeping along a body, or grooves cut by skaters into a frozen pond, or some other familiar pattern found in our natural world. There is a sense of spirituality in his paintings and a celebration of Mother Earth. This painting was part of a collection of a seasoned art expert who amassed an impressive collection of 500+ artworks and artifacts in his lifetime. Alex Simeon Janvier AOE (1935- ) is a celebrated First Nation artist in Canada. As a member of the commonly referred to "Indian Group of Seven", Janvier is a pioneer of contemporary Canadian Aboriginal art in Canada. He has won many awards including the Distinguished Artist Award (2017), the Order of Canada (2007), the Governor General's Award in Visual and Media Art (2008), the National Aboriginal Lifetime Achievement Award (2002), the Marion Nicoll Visual Arts Award (2008), and the Alberta Order of Excellence (2010). Janvier also had the honor of a solo travelling exhibition titled "Alex Janvier: Modern Indigenous Master," which was curated by the National Gallery of Canada (2016-2018).
