Both Ovals: One of Abraham Schermerhorn in high collared coat, attributed to Anson Dickinson (1779-1852), with paperwork on sitter and Walter L. Suydam on paper tag, SS: 2 5/8" x 2 1/8"; and Miniature of young man in oval frame, SS: 2 1/2" x 2".Abraham Schermerhorn (1783-1850), wealthy NYC merchant, married Helen Van Cortlandt White , had 9 children, one of whom, Caroline, married William Astor. Lived at No. 1 Greenwich Street until about 1840, No 36 Bond Street thereafter.Walter Leonard Suydam was a prominent member of NYC Socety in the Gilded Age. His maternal grandfather was Abraham Schermerhorn.
