Late Period-Ptolemaic Period, 664-31 B.C. A faience heart scarab with spread wings, produced in three sections, with polychrome detailing to the carapace and feathered, bird-like wings; each section pierced for attachment. 30.5 grams total, 48-57 mm (1 7/8 - 2 1/4 in.). Private early 20th century collection. Winged scarabs, meant to guarantee the rebirth of the deceased, were very popular funerary amulets. [3]
