Description
Near East, Iran, Marlik, ca. 1000 to 600 BCE. A large burnished terracotta pitcher boasting a long, graceful spout and a loop handle decorated with an angular mythological animal of a horned bull or perhaps bird-like form with abstract head and tailfeathers from the Marlik region of the Gohar valley in the province of Gilan in Iran. Though the decorative program is relatively minimal, the animorphic form is quite striking and the silhouette of this piece is so elegant. Size: 13.5" W x 9.5" H (34.3 cm x 24.1 cm)
