Northwestern Europe, England, Victorian Era, ca. 19th century CE. A chatelaine brass case with tools (chatelaine necessaire etui) and a miniature notepad. The booklet contains paper pages bound inside a brass cover with a hinge, and loops to the side for securing a pencil - a lead or graphite nub could be inserted into the hollow tip. The other is a compact etui or tool kit with 4 different retractable implements: a button hook, knife, flattened needle, and pencil. The hook and needle assisted in buttoning and unlacing shoes or corsets. The thumb slides on the sides articulate smoothly and the surface is decorated with pale blue glass inlays. Both items have integral suspension loops for wearing on a chatelaine. Size (notepad): 2" L x 1.25" W (5.1 cm x 3.2 cm)

Thumb slides work and tools retract easily. Missing 2 blue glass inlays. Notepad pages have water stains and discoloration. Several pages are written on. Brass cover intact and very good. Age and use expected patina on both.
