Greek, South Italic, Apulia, ca 350 BC. A finely potted and skillfully painted pottery vessel in the style known as Saint-Valentin. The body features a rectangular panel decorated with diamond motifs. Saint-Valentin vases first appeared in the second quarter of the 5th Century BCE in Athens and continued to be made there throughout the century. The style was later adopted by South Italic vase painters, including the artist who decorated this example. This olpe has a single loop handle, a wide mouth with flat rim, and slightly corseted neck. Size: 4" W x 3.7" H (10.2 cm x 9.4 cm)
