Description
Steinway concert grand piano model D with the original Steinway bench.
The piano is a model D Steinway, meaning it is 8"113/4 inches in length. Lets call it 9 Foot. It is the model D that is know as a Concert Grand. The piano was rebuilt and restrung so the serial # is not in the usual places. I place the
piano in the 1920's.
The piano has been refinished in a beautiful Ebony Polish, This is not a usual Steinway finish. The workmanship is
excellent. The finish is perfect. The matching Steinway Bench Complements the piano nicely.
Strings and Stringing:
The piano has been completely rebuilt. As far as I can tell a new pinblock was installed. The piano was restrung with new bass strings and the appropriate whole and half size steel wire. 3.0 tuning pins were used, further indicating that a new pinblock was installed. The damper felt has been replaced and the damper heads refinished,
Belly. Bearing and soundboard and crown.
There are no cracks in the soundboard. Zero. Bearing is fine in the treble, mid section and the bass. this indicates that the soundboard is sufficiently crowned.
The bridges are good and the bridge pins are tight. The duplexes are placed appropriately,
Keys and action:
There is no play in the front and center key bushings. The keys are tight.
The hammers are recent as are the shanks and flanges.
The piano is extremely playable as it is, But could stand a complete regulation. This happens over time and is
not a fault of the rebuilder. Pianos go out of regulation. There is no need to replace the hammers or the shanks and flanges, or the wippins.
A pianodisk has been installed. It plays floppies, There is a good selection of software that goes with the piano both classical and popular.
Overall this is a great sounding D concert grand. It looks as good as it sounds.
